Smells Like Punk Spirit? Sex Pistols New Fragrance and Packaging

Have you ever wondered what punk spirit smells like? Well, the Sex Pistols and French beauty brand Etat Libre D’Orange think they have a pretty good idea. They have recently launched the new Sex Pistols fragrance that they describe as “the spirit of punk” in a bottle. According to the press release:

“Electrified by aldehydes, the fragrance exudes pure energy, pared down and pumped up by leather, shot through with heliotrope and brought back down to earth by a raunchy patchouli. To wear this scent, you must resist tradition, fight conformity, and disregard aromatic conventions. In the spirit of punk, you must be willing to express yourself with abandon. You take risks and you wouldn’t be adverse to creating a little mayhem.”

The bottle and carton embody the identity of the iconic album cover for “God Save the Queen” from 1977. It just so happens that collage/handmade inspired packaging identity is in full swing as a trend for 2010, so despite the retro throwback the packaging ironically looks quite current.
